The 38-year-old Osgood, who won three Stanley Cups with Detroit, announced his plans Tuesday. He'll remain with the organization, helping scout and develop young goalies.
Analysis: Osgood played only 11 games last season as a backup to Jimmy Howard. He was later sidelined after undergoing sports hernia surgery in January. His retirement leaves Detroit searching for another backup goalie. The Red Wings recently re-signed Joey MacDonald to be the team's No. 3 goaltender.
