He was in the lineup Friday night against the Washington Wizards, although coach Alvin Gentry said before the game he didn't know how much the 6-foot-10, 270-pound Perkins would play because the Wizards use a lot of small lineups.
Analysis: Gentry says the team expected Perkins to be out about two months. The team had said he was out indefinitely.

The people spoke to The Associated Press on Tuesday on condition of anonymity because the contract has not been announced by the club or Perkins' representatives. The agreement was first reported by ESPN. In New Orleans, Perkins is expected to take on a reserve role behind 7-foot starter Omer Asik.
Analysis: The 6-foot-10 Perkins has spent 12 seasons in the NBA, the first seven in Boston, a stint that included an NBA championship in 2008. Perkins holds career averages of 5.5 points, 5.9 rebounds and 1.2 blocks.
