Aug. 26 2:23 PM PT3:23 PM MT4:23 PM CT5:23 PM ET21:23 GMT5:23 2:23 PM MST4:23 PM EST1:23 UAE (+1)23:2317:23 ET4:23 PM CT20:23 - The New Orleans Pelicans have signed veteran small forward John Salmons to a free agent contract.
Analysis: The 6-foot-6 Salmons, whose acquisition was announced by the club Tuesday, has played 12 seasons in the NBA. He has averaged 9.4 points, 3 rebounds and 2.5 assists during his career. The 34-year-old entered the NBA with Philadelphia after being selected 26th overall in the 2002 draft. The Pelicans have been looking to add depth at small forward since Al-Farouq Aminu left for Dallas in free agency this offseason.
July 11 10:43 AM PT11:43 AM MT12:43 PM CT1:43 PM ET17:43 GMT1:43 10:43 AM MST12:43 PM EST21:43 UAE19:4313:43 ET12:43 PM CT16:43 - The Atlanta Hawks have requested waivers on Salmons. The move announced Friday was expected after the Hawks acquired Salmons from Toronto last week. Atlanta dealt away guard Lou Williams and the rights to Brazilian center Lucas Nogueira in a move to clear space under the salary cap.
Analysis: By paying the $1 million buyout of Salmons' $7 million salary, the Hawks will have about $11.5 million for additional signings. They opened free agency by formally announcing a deal for Oklahoma swingman Thabo Sefolosha. The 34-year-old Salmons averaged 5.2 points in 78 games for the Raptors last season.
June 29 6:56 PM PT7:56 PM MT8:56 PM CT9:56 PM ET1:56 GMT9:56 6:56 PM MST8:56 PM EST5:56 UAE (+1)03:5621:56 ET8:56 PM CT0:56 - A person with knowledge of the deal tells The Associated Press that the Toronto Raptors have agreed to trade John Salmons to the Atlanta Hawks for Brazilian center Lucas Nogueira and veteran guard Lou Williams.
Analysis: The Hawks can buy out Salmons' $7 million contract to free up more salary cap room to give them the prime flexibility once the market opens.
Dec. 9 10:29 PM PT11:29 PM MT12:29 AM CT1:29 AM ET6:29 GMT14:29 11:29 PM MST1:29 AM EST10:29 UAE07:291:29 ET12:29 AM CT4:29 - Toronto will receive Greivis Vasquez, Patrick Patterson, Salmons and Chuck Hayes from the Raptors in exchange for Rudy Gay, Aaron Gray and Quincy Acy.
Analysis: The trade is by far the biggest and boldest under first-year Raptors general manager Masai Ujiri, who worked with new Kings GM Pete D'Alessandro in Denver previously. Sending Gay to Sacramento sheds salary and gives Toronto future financial flexibility.
