Memphis officials confirmed the signing Tuesday. Contract details were not immediately available.
Analysis: The oft-injured free agent had not played since finishing last season with the Orlando Magic. Arenas worked out for Memphis on Monday and will be used to backup point guard Mike Conley, who hasn't had reliable relief all season. The 30-year-old Arenas has averaged 21.2 points and 5.4 assists per game in his nine-year career, but is no longer an elite player due to knee injuries.
Mar. 18 2:40 PM PT3:40 PM MT4:40 PM CT5:40 PM ET21:40 GMT5:40 AM 北京时间2:40 PM MST4:40 PM EST1:40 UAE (+1)21:4017:40 ET3:40 PM CT - Arenas will work out Monday for the Memphis Grizzlies, who are looking to bolster their backup point guard position. "That's the plan," Memphis coach Lionel Hollins says Sunday before a game against Washington, Arenas' former team.
Analysis: Arenas ended last season with the Orlando Magic after he was traded earlier in the season for Rashard Lewis. He averaged 8.0 points in 49 games after the trade, but shot only 39 percent from the field. The Magic waived him in December through the new amnesty clause so his salary wouldn't count against the cap or luxury tax. Arenas averaged 21.2 points and 5.4 assists during his nine-year career.
Dec. 9 12:58 PM PT1:58 PM MT2:58 PM CT3:58 PM ET20:58 GMT4:58 AM 北京时间1:58 PM MST3:58 PM EST0:58 UAE (+1)20:5815:58 ET2:58 PM CT - Arenas got waived by the Orlando Magic on Friday afternoon not long after the lockout's formal end.
Analysis: He'll still get that money, but it won't count against the Magic for salary cap and luxury-tax purposes, per the league's new amnesty clause.
