(TSX / STATS) -- Los Angeles Dodgers ace Clayton Kershaw went the extra mile during his scheduled three-inning simulated game on Monday.

How so? Well, the three-time Cy Young Award winner tacked on a fourth inning as he attempts to return from a strained lower back that landed him on the 10-day disabled list July 24.

Kershaw told SportsNetLA that he feels ready to pitch in a major league game on Tuesday, but that's for the team to decide.

The team made its decision later on Monday, saying Kershaw is slated to pitch for Triple-A Oklahoma City against the Omaha Storm Chasers on Saturday. Pitching coach Rick Honeycutt told reporters that Kershaw will throw approximately 60 pitches in that encounter.

Kershaw was on his way to a runaway Cy Young season when he encountered tightness in his back after the second inning against the Atlanta Braves on July 23. He owns a 15-2 mark with a major league-best 2.04 ERA in 21 starts this season.
