Analysis: Perez signed a one-year deal two months after the five-time All-Star was released by Cleveland. General manager Ned Colletti said Perez expressed interest in joining the Dodgers and pitching in any role that is asked of him. Perez's addition doesn't change the Dodgers' plans to have Kenley Jansen and Brian Wilson serve as the primary closers. Colletti said he couldn't pass up the chance to add another reliever who has had success late in games.
Oct. 31 11:23 AM PT12:23 PM MT1:23 PM CT2:23 PM ET14:23 ET18:23 GMT2:23 CST11:23 AM MST1:23 PM EST1:53 PM VEN22:23 UAE12:23 PM CT-The Indians have released Perez.
Analysis: A two-time All-Star, Perez wore out his welcome in Cleveland. He lost his job in the final week of the season as the Indians were trying to clinch a wild-card berth. It capped another tumultuous year for the right-hander, who was arrested in June after drug agents followed a package containing marijuana to his home. He and his wife pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor charge.
Sep. 27 6:39 PM PT7:39 PM MT8:39 PM CT9:39 PM ET21:39 ET1:39 GMT9:39 CST6:39 PM MST8:39 PM EST9:09 PM VEN5:39 UAE (+1)8:39 PM CT-Perez has lost his job as the Cleveland Indians' closer.
Analysis: Perez allowed four runs and four hits in Thursday's 6-5 win over Minnesota, retiring just two batters. He was 25 saves in 30 chances but has a 7.52 ERA since Aug. 1, raising his season average to 4.33. Manager Terry Francona said he hasn't ruled out a return to closing in the playoffs, if the Indians make it to the postseason. Cleveland began Friday one game ahead of Texas for the second AL wild-card berth.

Analysis: Perez withdrew his not guilty plea Tuesday in Rocky River Municipal Court and was found guilty and fined $250. He also was placed on probation and ordered to speak to youngsters about drugs.
Aug. 6 2:49 PM PT3:49 PM MT4:49 PM CT5:49 PM ET17:49 ET21:49 GMT5:49 CST2:49 PM MST4:49 PM EST5:19 PM VEN1:49 UAE (+1)4:49 PM CT-Indians manager Terry Francona is downplaying Perez's choice not to speak with local reporters.
Analysis: Perez ducked the media following Monday's night's 4-2 loss to Detroit after he gave up four runs in the ninth inning. Francona said ``in a perfect world'' his players would speak following games, but he wasn't concerned about Perez's media blackout being a distraction to the Indians. Francona said Perez's decision not to talk is a ``personal choice, but I think we try to foster an environment where guys are accountable.''
July 9 9:45 AM PT10:45 AM MT11:45 AM CT12:45 PM ET12:45 ET16:45 GMT0:45 CST9:45 AM MST11:45 AM EST12:15 PM VEN20:45 UAE11:45 AM CT-The marijuana possession case against Cleveland Indians closer Chris Perez and his wife could extend to the final month of the season. The two were at Rocky River Municipal Court on Tuesday in suburban Cleveland and the case is to resume Sept. 3. According to The (Cleveland) Plain Dealer, attorneys discussed evidence sharing.
Analysis: Perez and his wife, Melanie, pleaded not guilty to misdemeanor possession charges after marijuana was mailed to their home in their dog's name. Police say they were tipped off by postal inspectors to suspicious packages.
June 19 11:18 AM PT12:18 PM MT1:18 PM CT2:18 PM ET14:18 ET18:18 GMT2:18 CST11:18 AM MST1:18 PM EST1:48 PM VEN22:18 UAE1:18 PM CT-Perez will throw at least one more bullpen session and may make another rehab appearance in the minor leagues before coming off the disabled list.
Analysis: Perez, who has been sidelined with a strained rotator cuff since May 27, had expected to be activated on Friday. But following a shaky outing on Tuesday at Double-A Akron, the Indians won't rush him back. Manager Terry Francona said Perez's mechanics were off when he allowed five earned runs - three homers - in a one-inning stint against Trenton. In one three-pitch sequence, he gave up a home run, hit a batter and then allowed another homer.
June 7 12:27 PM PT1:27 PM MT2:27 PM CT3:27 PM ET15:27 ET19:27 GMT3:27 CST12:27 PM MST2:27 PM EST2:57 PM VEN23:27 UAE2:27 PM CT-Perez, speaking to reporters for the first time since being charged with misdemeanor drug possession after marijuana was mailed to his home earlier this month, took no questions about the incident prior to Saturday's game against Washington. Perez and his wife, Melaine, pleaded not guilty to the charges.
Analysis: The two-time All-Star is on the disabled list with tendinitis in his right shoulder. He will begin a minor league rehab assignment Sunday and could rejoin the Indians next week.
June 5 8:22 AM PT9:22 AM MT10:22 AM CT11:22 AM ET11:22 ET15:22 GMT23:22 CST8:22 AM MST10:22 AM EST10:52 AM VEN19:22 UAE10:22 AM CT-Drug agents in Ohio are investigating a suspected marijuana shipment to the home of Cleveland Indians closer Chris Perez. Rocky River Police Chief Kelly Stillman said Wednesday afternoon in a brief statement that investigators suspect they found marijuana in a package sent to the Perez home in suburban Cleveland. The chief says it will be up to the state crime lab to determine the shipment's contents.
Analysis: No one has been arrested. Perez hasn't commented and his attorney hasn't responded to a request for comment. Indians general manager Chris Antonetti says in a statement that the team has "talked with Chris" and is "gathering additional information." The Indians often-polarizing closer has six saves this season, but is on the disabled list with an injured right shoulder.
May 26 7:50 PM PT8:50 PM MT9:50 PM CT10:50 PM ET22:50 ET2:50 GMT10:50 CST7:50 PM MST9:50 PM EST10:20 PM VEN6:50 UAE (+1)9:50 PM CT-Perez is closer to returning from a shoulder injury.
Analysis: Perez threw a 30-pitch bullpen session, which manager Terry Francona said went "really well'' on Friday. Perez, who has been sidelined since May 27 with a strained rotator cuff, will throw a simulated game Sunday at Double-A Akron. Perez will likely make a rehab appearance next week in the minors before he is activated, Francona said.
Mar. 1 10:58 AM PT11:58 AM MT12:58 PM CT1:58 PM ET13:58 ET18:58 GMT2:58 CST11:58 AM MST1:58 PM EST2:28 PM VEN22:58 UAE12:58 PM CT-Perez hopes to recover from a shoulder injury in time for the Indians' April 2 opener at Toronto. He was diagnosed Friday with a strained muscle in his right shoulder, an injury that could sideline him for a month.
Analysis: Perez, who saved 39 games last season, will not throw for the next week to 10 days. Once he resumes his program, the Indians estimate he will be pitching in games in three or four weeks. It is the second straight spring training Perez has been injured. Last year, he was sidelined with a pulled side muscle.
