Analysis: Unlike his last two outings when he gave up a combined 11 runs over 10 innings, Shields was actually decent this time around. However, walks continue to be an issue - he's averaging 3.02 walks per nine innings after issuing four Thursday.
June 26 3:45 PM PT4:45 PM MT5:45 PM CT6:45 PM ET18:45 ET22:45 GMT6:45 3:45 PM MST5:45 PM EST6:15 PM VEN2:45 UAE (+1)5:45 PM CT-Shields had his worst start of the season in a 13-8 loss to San Francisco on Thursday.
Analysis: Shields (7-2, 4.24 ERA) was charged with seven runs in four-plus innings, his shortest outing in 2015. She's 0-2 with a 6.45 ERA in his last four starts.
June 20 4:33 PM PT5:33 PM MT6:33 PM CT7:33 PM ET19:33 ET23:33 GMT7:33 4:33 PM MST6:33 PM EST7:03 PM VEN3:33 UAE (+1)6:33 PM CT-Shields took his first loss of the year Friday, giving up four runs and eight hits over six innings in a 4-2 defeat after Arizona.
Analysis: Shields' 7-0 start wasn't without a little luck, as he's still averaging 6.5 runs of support despite the one-run backing he received Friday.
June 15 12:05 PM PT1:05 PM MT2:05 PM CT3:05 PM ET15:05 ET19:05 GMT3:05 12:05 PM MST2:05 PM EST2:35 PM VEN23:05 UAE2:05 PM CT-Shields had another no-decision Sunday, limiting the Dodgers to one run over seven innings of San Diego's 4-2 defeat.
Analysis: Shields is still undefeated at 7-0, and he owns a 2.98 ERA in his last seven outings.
June 10 1:58 PM PT2:58 PM MT3:58 PM CT4:58 PM ET16:58 ET20:58 GMT4:58 1:58 PM MST3:58 PM EST4:28 PM VEN0:58 UAE (+1)3:58 PM CT-Shields failed to record a quality start for the first time in six outings Tuesday, giving up five runs - four earned - and seven hits over 5 1-3 innings of San Diego's 6-5 loss at Atlanta. He wasn't charged with the defeat, however.
Analysis: Shields struck out six batters and his 10.9 strikeouts per nine innings marks the highest rate of his career.
June 4 3:09 PM PT4:09 PM MT5:09 PM CT6:09 PM ET18:09 ET22:09 GMT6:09 3:09 PM MST5:09 PM EST5:39 PM VEN2:09 UAE (+1)5:09 PM CT-Shields improved to 7-0 Wednesday against the Mets, allowing two runs over seven innings in a 7-3 victory.
Analysis: Shields, who owns a 3.58 ERA, owns San Diego's offense a lot of credit for his record. He owns a 7.17 run-support average.
May 14 3:32 PM PT4:32 PM MT5:32 PM CT6:32 PM ET18:32 ET22:32 GMT6:32 3:32 PM MST5:32 PM EST6:02 PM VEN2:32 UAE (+1)5:32 PM CT-Shields reached 5-0 in Wednesday's 4-2 win in Seattle.
Analysis: Shields limited the Mariners to a run and six hits while striking out nine in six innings. He's won three straight starts, but this was the only one to be proud of. He's allowed an MLB-high 12 homers and his 2.23 HR/9 rate is better than only Kyle Lohse and Kyle Kendrick.
Apr. 12 5:38 PM PT6:38 PM MT7:38 PM CT8:38 PM ET20:38 ET0:38 GMT8:38 5:38 PM MST7:38 PM EST8:08 PM VEN4:38 UAE (+1)7:38 PM CT-Shields earned his first win in Saturday's 10-2 victory over San Francisco, giving up only one run on a homer in seven innings of work.

Analysis: Shields is a solid fantasy option, especially when taking the mound at pitcher-friendly Petco Park.

Analysis: San Diego opens the season on April 6 at the Los Angeles Dodgers. Shields has never pitched at Dodger Stadium. Shields signed a $75 million, four-year deal with the Padres last month. The 33-year-old righty became a free agent after pitching for Kansas City in the World Series last October. This will be Shields' seventh season opening assignment. He pitched the last two for the Royals and did it four times with Tampa Bay.

The Padres have a $16 million option for 2019 with a $2 million buyout that would be payable by Jan. 15, 2019.
Analysis: Shields' deal gives him the right to terminate the contract no later than three days after the 2016 World Series and to become a free agent. San Diego would retain its right to make him a qualifying offer,

Analysis: Shields is the latest addition by first-year general manager A.J. Preller, who in December added sluggers Matt Kemp, Justin Upton and Wil Myers, as well as Derek Norris and Will Middlebrooks. Shields was 14-8 with a 3.21 ERA last season and declined a $15.3 million qualifying offer from the Royals. He lost both of his World Series starts, outdueled each time by Madison Bumgarner.
