| Jan. 19 6:18 PM PT7:18 PM MT8:18 PM CT9:18 PM ET2:18 AM GMT10:18 AM 北京时间-A person familiar with the negotiations tells The Associated Press the Boston Red Sox have agreed to a $9.35 million, one-year contract with Papelbon. Analysis: Papelbon's salary is the highest for a reliever with at least four years of major league service, surpassing Mariano Rivera's $7.25 million contract after the 2000 season. Papelbon would earn an extra $50,000 if he finishes 60 games. Papelbon had a $6.25 million base salary last year and earned an extra $50,000 for making the AL All-Star team. |

Papelbon has 34 saves in 37 opportunities this season, with a 1.84 ERA. |

Analysis: "Obviously, it feels good," said Papelbon, who yielded the key hit in the eighth inning Tuesday in which Boston's bullpen blew a 10-1 lead before losing 11-10. "When I set out to be the closer of the Boston Red Sox, there were definitely a lot of goals in sight and this was one of them. To finally get it and get it out of my head, you know, to stop thinking about it, is definitely good for me. It's done with. Let's move on." |
