Sep. 4 11:54 AM PT12:54 PM MT1:54 PM CT2:54 PM ET7:54 PM GMT3:54 AM 北京时间-Papelbon was fined $5,000 by Major League Baseball for taking too long to throw his first pitch. A new rule allows pitchers 2 minutes, 20 seconds from the final out of the previous inning to the first pitch. They get 12 seconds to throw once the batter steps into the box.
Analysis: Papelbon was fined previously this season. "After this, I don't know, man,'' Papelbon told the Boston Herald. "I think they're going to call my parole officer and put me away.'' Papelbon has 34 saves in 37 opportunities this season, with a 1.84 ERA.
Aug. 11 10:09 AM PT11:09 AM MT12:09 PM CT1:09 PM ET6:09 PM GMT2:09 AM 北京时间-Papelbon got his 28th save in 31 opportunities Monday in a 6-5 win over the Tigers.
Analysis: Papelbon recorded his third save in which he recorded at least four outs. He pitched 1 1-3 innings Monday.
Jul. 15 9:33 PM PT10:33 PM MT11:33 PM CT12:33 AM ET5:33 AM GMT1:33 PM 北京时间-Papelbon picked up the victory in the AL's 4-3 triumph over the NL in Tuesday's All-Star game after pitching a scoreless seventh inning, striking out one and needing only 10 pitches to record his three outs.
Analysis: Papelbon set the table for Joe Nathan in the eighth and Mariano Rivera in the ninth, and the NL once again couldn't get the job done against the AL's premier closers.
Jul. 2 12:09 PM PT1:09 PM MT2:09 PM CT3:09 PM ET8:09 PM GMT4:09 AM 北京时间-In Wednesday's 6-5, 11-inning win over the Orioles, Papelbon got three outs for his 20th save this season and 133rd with the Red Sox, breaking the team record held by Bob Stanley.
Analysis: "Obviously, it feels good," said Papelbon, who yielded the key hit in the eighth inning Tuesday in which Boston's bullpen blew a 10-1 lead before losing 11-10. "When I set out to be the closer of the Boston Red Sox, there were definitely a lot of goals in sight and this was one of them. To finally get it and get it out of my head, you know, to stop thinking about it, is definitely good for me. It's done with. Let's move on."
Jun. 30 10:43 AM PT11:43 AM MT12:43 PM CT1:43 PM ET6:43 PM GMT2:43 AM 北京时间-Papelbon recorded his 132nd career save Monday, tying Bob Stanley for the most in Red Sox history.
Analysis: Papelbon has 19 saves in 20 opportunities this season. He recorded his latest one against Baltimore, pitching one-third of an inning. He is 1-1 with a 1.89 ERA this season.
Jun. 12 3:03 PM PT4:03 PM MT5:03 PM CT6:03 PM ET11:03 PM GMT7:03 AM 北京时间-Papelbon has been fined by major league baseball for slow play. The Boston reliever said Friday that he was taking too long to make his first pitch upon entering the game from the bullpen. Speaking before the Red Sox opened a three-game series against the Philadelphia Phillies, Papelbon said he had been warned about breaking the rule.
Analysis: The Daily Item in Lynn, Mass., first reported the fine of $1,000. The paper said that Papelbon was the first player fined this season for breaking the rule designed to speed up games. The Red Sox have the third-longest average time of game this season, 3 hours, 3 minutes.
Jun. 12 10:36 AM PT11:36 AM MT12:36 PM CT1:36 PM ET6:36 PM GMT2:36 AM 北京时间-Papelbon got three outs for his 16th save Thursday in a 4-3 win over the Yankees.
Analysis: Papelbon has dominated the Yankees, not allowing a run over 5 2-3 innings against them this year.
May 11 3:48 PM PT4:48 PM MT5:48 PM CT6:48 PM ET11:48 PM GMT7:48 AM 北京时间-Papelbon put himself in a jam, then powered his way out of it in the ninth inning to close out Boston's 4-3 win over Tampa Bay on Sunday night.
Analysis: Akinori Iwamura walked, advanced on Papelbon's throwing error on a pickoff attempt and moved to third on Jason Bartlett's single to start the ninth. But Papelbon, using high 90s heat, got Carlos Pena, B.J. Upton and Carl Crawford to go down swinging. Papelbon hasn't yet blown a save this year but has often flirted with disaster, allowing 12 hits, eight walks and two hit batsmen in 14 innings.
