Analysis: Verlander, who came in 0 for 26 with 15 strikeouts, singled up the middle off Ian Kennedy in the second inning and had a base hit to right in the fourth, although he had to hustle to avoid being thrown out by Chris Denorfia. Verlander scored on Torii Hunter's two-run single in the fourth. Verlander (1-1, 2.57 ERA) allowed two runs and eight hits, struck out eight and walked one.
Apr. 7 12:33 PM PT1:33 PM MT2:33 PM CT3:33 PM ET15:33 ET19:33 GMT3:33 12:33 PM MST2:33 PM EST3:03 PM VEN23:33 UAE2:33 PM CT-Verlander suffered Sunday's 3-1 loss to the O's.
Analysis: Verlander gave up two runs on five hits and two walks over eight innings. He struck out three, moving past Tommy Bridges and into fourth place on the franchise's all-time list with 1,674 in his career, but isn't pleased with that part of his game after fanning just two in his first start. "You get a feel for strikeouts and my feel for those isn't there yet," Verlander said.
Feb. 15 12:47 PM PT1:47 PM MT2:47 PM CT3:47 PM ET15:47 ET20:47 GMT4:47 1:47 PM MST3:47 PM EST4:17 PM VEN0:47 UAE (+1)2:47 PM CT-Verlander threw 41 pitches in his first official bullpen session of spring training.
Analysis: Verlander is recovering from surgery on his abdomen in early January. He's trying to tone it down this spring and Tigers rookie manager Brad Ausmus says Verlander is mostly setting his own pace. Verlander was slated to throw 40 pitches Saturday, but instead threw 41. It's the third time Verlander has thrown off the mound since coming in ahead of the official pitchers and catchers reporting date, but it is the longest stint he's had.
Feb. 11 2:12 PM PT3:12 PM MT4:12 PM CT5:12 PM ET17:12 ET22:12 GMT6:12 3:12 PM MST5:12 PM EST5:42 PM VEN2:12 UAE (+1)4:12 PM CT-Verlander says he threw about 20 pitches off a mound on Monday.
Analysis: Verlander spoke with reporters Tuesday and said he didn't have any pain in his groin and hip. The right-hander had surgery on Jan. 9. The 30-year-old Verlander says he hurt his groin doing squats, and that he also had what was believed to be a pre-existing abdominal problem. Verlander says he would like to pitch in five spring training games, if possible, but there is also a plan for if he is unable to do that.
