Casilla has spent his entire big league career between the two Bay Area teams; his initial six seasons were with Oakland.
Analysis: While the right-hander lost his job as closer last season for the Giants' struggling bullpen, he provides A's manager Bob Melvin with some options of when to use him. Casilla could be called upon to help handle ninth-inning duties along with regular closer Sean Doolittle, while Ryan Dull also could be in the mix. He went 2-5 with a 3.57 ERA and 31 saves last season after posting a 4-2 mark record with a 2.79 ERA and a career-best 38 saves in 2015.
Sep. 18 11:01 PM PT12:01 AM MT1:01 AM CT2:01 AM ET2:01 ET6:01 GMT14:01 11:01 PM MST1:01 AM EST1:31 AM VEN10:01 UAE1:01 AM CT-After Giants manager Bruce Bochy didn't have the confidence in him to start Saturday's ninth inning with a 2-1 lead over St. Louis, Castilla wound up blowing the save anyway after entering the game with one on and one out.
Analysis: Bochy was booed when he went to the mound to bring Casilla into the game, and booed louder when he had to go back and pull him two batters later. Casilla has blown nine saves on the season, with two coming in his last three appearances.
Sep. 8 8:58 AM PT9:58 AM MT10:58 AM CT11:58 AM ET11:58 ET15:58 GMT23:58 8:58 AM MST10:58 AM EST11:28 AM VEN19:58 UAE10:58 AM CT-Casilla's hold on the closer position in San Francisco seems tenous at best after he gave up two runs in the ninth inning of Wednesday's 6-5 loss to Colorado.
Analysis: Casilla is 0-1 with a 7.88 ERA over his last nine appearances, blowing two of his six save chances over that span.
Sep. 5 10:11 PM PT11:11 PM MT12:11 AM CT1:11 AM ET1:11 ET5:11 GMT13:11 10:11 PM MST12:11 AM EST12:41 AM VEN9:11 UAE12:11 AM CT-Casilla allowed the tying run in the ninth inning of Sunday's loss to the Cubs for his NL-leading seventh blown save.
Analysis: The shaky San Francisco closer had converted his last three opportunities, but he's now surrendered five runs in 6 2/3 innings in seven appearances since Aug. 14. Casilla has only three saves over that stretch, in part because the slumping Giants haven't had many late leads of late.
Aug. 10 2:14 PM PT3:14 PM MT4:14 PM CT5:14 PM ET17:14 ET21:14 GMT5:14 2:14 PM MST4:14 PM EST4:44 PM VEN1:14 UAE (+1)4:14 PM CT-Casilla earned his 26th save Wednesday.
Analysis: Since allowing runs in three of eight appearances from June 28-July 26, the right-hander has allowed two hits and struck out nine in 7 2/3 scoreless innings in his last six games.
July 27 10:50 PM PT11:50 PM MT12:50 AM CT1:50 AM ET1:50 ET5:50 GMT13:50 10:50 PM MST12:50 AM EST1:20 AM VEN9:50 UAE12:50 AM CT-Casilla earned his 22nd save Tuesday in a 9-7 win over Cincinnati but was far from dominant again.
Analysis: Casilla was scored upon for the third time in his last eight appearances, posting a 6.75 ERA in that span. He's allowed 12 hits and six walks over those eight innings.
June 17 3:47 PM PT4:47 PM MT5:47 PM CT6:47 PM ET18:47 ET22:47 GMT6:47 3:47 PM MST5:47 PM EST6:17 PM VEN2:47 UAE (+1)5:47 PM CT-The Giants activated Casilla from the paternity list Sunday.
Analysis: Casilla is 1-2 with a 2.67 ERA and has 14 saves in 18 opportunities.
