Analysis: Upton, who's hitting .243, became the first player in Tampa Bay's 12-season history to hit for the cycle. He became the fourth to have five hits in a game when he singled off Phil Hughes in the eighth.

Crawford caught the ball as Upton went down after taking an awkward step with his left foot.

After hitting .300 with 24 homers and 82 RBIs in 2007, he slipped to .273 with nine homers and 67 RBIs in 2008. Upton shone in the postseason, though, tying an AL record with seven homers during the team's run to the World Series. He had surgery in November.
