Analysis: The reliever's contract was selected from Triple-A Iowa on Monday, and he will earn $1,725,137 for the remaining 77 days of the season, the prorated share of his $4.1 million contract. His deal includes performance bonuses of $250,000 each for 20, 25, 30 and 35 games pitched, and $750,000 apiece for 20, 25, 30 and 35 games finished. The 35-year-old righty agreed to a minor league contract with the Cubs on June 12 and pitched seven games.

Chicago signed the 35-year-old Soriano to a pro-rated contract on June 12. Soriano, 35, has 207 saves and a 2.85 ERA in 585 major league appearances. The move was announced on Tuesday.
Analysis: The contract could lead to a reunion for Soriano and Joe Maddon, who was the manager in Tampa Bay when the right-hander had 45 saves for the Rays in 2010. Soriano has three seasons with at least 40 saves. Soriano played for Washington last season and went 4-1 with 32 saves and a 3.19 ERA.

Analysis: General manager Alex Anthopoulos said Friday he is "going to look to add if we can" as the Blue Jays opened up a six-game homestand against AL-best Houston. Soriano, who spent the past two years with Washington, has yet to play this season. He recently fired agent Scott Boras and is reportedly scheduled to hold a workout in the Dominican Republic on Thursday.
