Analysis: Hinske, the 2002 AL rookie of the year with Toronto, has three homers in nine at-bats with the Yankees - two more than he hit in 106 at-bats this season with the Pirates. The multihomer game was the seventh of his career.

Analysis: He was also hit by a pitch and had a single. Hinske, acquired six days earlier from Pittsburgh, started in right field. He's hitting .264 this season and had come in mired in a 3 for 22 (.136) slump.

Analysis: Hinske's contract pays him $1.5 million this season. The 2002 AL Rookie of the Year with Toronto was in the Yankees' clubhouse Wednesday before they played the Seattle Mariners, joining his fourth AL East team. He played for Tampa Bay last season and Boston the year before that, playing in two consecutive World Series.

Analysis: The former AL Rookie of the Year hit .255 in 106 at-bats this season with nine doubles, one homer and 11 RBIs, playing right field, first base and third base. He was 8 for 24 as a pinch hitter and said to be unhappy with a lack of playing time.

Analysis: Hinske has given the Pirates some solid contributions off the bench and as a part-time starter, hitting .282 with a .370 on-base percentage.
