Burnett injured the calf while working out Wednesday and was placed on the 15-day disabled list a day later by Pittsburgh.
Analysis: The 36-year-old Burnett is 4-6 this season with a 4.00 ERA. He threw a season-high 112 pitches in a win over the Chicago Cubs last Saturday but said the injury is not related. The right-hander is the fourth member of Pittsburgh's starting rotation to go on the disabled list this season, joining Wandy Rodriguez, Jeanmar Gomez and James McDonald.

Analysis: Burnett gave up two runs and five hits in six innings. His six strikeouts expanded his team record for the month of April to a league-leading 48. Burnett threw seven shutout innings in a 5-0 win over St. Louis on April 17. He hasn't allowed more than three earned runs in his six starts this season, giving up three just twice. The Pirates haven't backed him at the plate, however, providing him an average of 2.33 runs.

Pittsburgh Pirates manager Clint Hurdle has named the veteran righthander the team's starter when the Pirates begin the 2013 season at home on April 1 against the Chicago Cubs.
Analysis: It's an honor the Pirates expected to bestow upon Burnett last spring after he came over in a trade with the New York Yankees, but Burnett fractured his orbital bone while trying to bunt during his first spring training workout and missed the first month of the season. The 36-year-old made up for lost time, going 16-10 with a 3.51 ERA in 31 starts.
