Analysis: He joined the late Bobby Bonds as the only players in Angels' history with at least 100 RBIs and 30 steals in the same season. Bonds had 115 RBIs and 41 steals in 1977. Abreu also reached 150 games played for the 12th straight year. Four other players have played in 150 games in 12 or more consecutive seasons: Willie Mays, Billy Williams, Pete Rose and Cal Ripken Jr.

Analysis: Abreu left Wednesday night's game against Seattle in the second inning. He hurt his left big toe when he hit first base trying to beat out an infield grounder. Abreu isn't sure he'll be ready until early next week, but Scioscia was encouraged that it doesn't appear to be an injury that will have Abreu out for a long period. Scioscia said if the toe is feeling better, Abreu could be used in a pinch-hitting situation this weekend against the Dodgers.

Abreu said something to Beckett and was held back by umpire Paul Schreiber, then both dugouts and bullpens emptied - but no punches were thrown. Abreu then responded with his bat, driving in two with a third-inning single. Abreu's 7-for-24 (.292) through his first six games in 2009.

He will make a base salary of $5 million with a chance to push it above $6 million based on incentives, according to several media outlets. The AL West champions were expected to announce the deal Thursday, pending Abreu's passing a physical Wednesday.
Analysis: The 13-year veteran made $16 million with the New York Yankees last season and was reportedly seeking a three-year, $48 million deal as a free agent. Abreu, who batted .296 with 100 RBIs and 20 homers last season, joins an outfield-designated hitter rotation. With a .405 career on-base percentage and an ability to work deep counts, Abreu offers the Angels a patient left-handed hitter to bat ahead of righty Vladimir Guerrero.
