NEW YORK (AP) Curtis Granderson stepped to the plate in a bottom of the ninth inning he never expected to see, surprised Jeurys Familia had blown a four-run lead.

An 0-for-11 slide had dropped his average to .195. He had struck out three times and walked in his first four times up.

He fouled off a fastball from Pedro Baez, then hooked a 97 mph belt-high pitch high down the right-field line. Would it stay fair?

TORONTO (AP) Despite hitting two home runs and driving in five runs, the scariest thing about Josh Donaldson might just be that the best is yet to come.

After going 4 for 5 to lead the Toronto Blue Jays to a 7-5 victory over the Boston Red Sox that snapped a five-game home losing streak, the All-Star third baseman insists he's finally rounding into form.

Odor's suspension cut from 8 to 7 games

ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) Rangers second baseman Rougned Odor started serving his suspension Friday for punching Toronto's Jose Bautista after the penalty was reduced from eight to seven games.

Odor was out of the lineup for the series opener against Pittsburgh. He will be eligible to return June 4 when Texas is home against Seattle.

BoSox put struggling Buchholz in bullpen

TORONTO (AP) Struggling Red Sox pitcher Clay Buchholz is being moved to the bullpen and left-hander Eduardo Rodriguez will take Buchholz's spot in the rotation, starting Tuesday at Baltimore.

Buchholz is 2-5 with a 6.35 ERA in 10 starts and has allowed five earned runs or more six times. He gave up season-highs of six runs and three home runs in Thursday's 8-2 loss to Colorado.

Piscotty's slam off Scherzer lifts Cards

WASHINGTON (AP) As Jaime Garcia rediscovered his winning form, pitching counterpart Max Scherzer lost the strike zone and then the game by allowing yet another home run.

Stephen Piscotty hit a grand slam off Scherzer during a five-run third inning and Garcia quieted the Washington Nationals lineup as the St. Louis Cardinals won 6-2 on Friday night.

ANAHEIM, Calif. (AP) The Angels have a lonely island of power in the middle of their lineup, but opposing teams just can't seem to navigate around it.

Mike Trout and Albert Pujols have combined to hit half of the Angels' home runs this season and the two were at it yet again Friday night, sparking a big inning by driving in a combined five runs in Los Angeles' 7-2 victory over the Houston Astros.

Hosmer has 4 RBIs, KC rallies by ChiSox

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) Eric Hosmer had three hits, including a home run, and drove in four runs as the Kansas City Royals rallied to defeat the Chicago White Sox 7-5 on Friday night.

Hosmer, who hit .120 (3 for 25) on the just concluded six-game trip, laced a two-run single with two outs in the seventh to put the Royals ahead. He homered in the sixth and drove in a run in the first inning with a groundout.

A-Rod homers to back dominant Tanaka

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (AP) Alex Rodriguez provided the power and Masahiro Tanaka was in control on the mound as the New York Yankees started a 10-game road trip in grand fashion.

Rodriguez homered for the first time since coming off the disabled list, Tanaka pitched seven shutout innings and the Yankees beat the Tampa Bay Rays 4-1 on Friday night.

CLEVELAND (AP) Orioles manager Buck Showalter decided it was time for a change, and it helped Baltimore break a four-game losing streak.

After watching his team score nine runs in its longest skid of the season, Showalter's lineup tweak paid off in a 6-4 victory over the Cleveland Indians on Friday night.
