Kershaw heads to 15-day DL, has epidural

MILWAUKEE (AP) Los Angeles Dodgers ace Clayton Kershaw received an epidural injection for his sore lower back and will be placed on the 15-day disabled list, manager Dave Roberts said before Thursday's game in Milwaukee.

"Clayton yesterday got an epidural, so at this point we're going to put him on the disabled list," Robert said. "And use the All-Star break, obviously, with the four days. And in the coming days, we should know more how that epidural . how he responds to that and that will give us some more direction."

Roberts did not know how long Kershaw is expected to be out, or who would make his scheduled start Friday at home against Colorado.

Yanks push Sabathia back to miss NL park

NEW YORK (AP) The New York Yankees will push CC Sabathia's next start back a day so he won't have to bat and run the bases in an interleague series at San Diego.

The Yankees will call up Chad Green from Triple-A to pitch Sunday against the Padres. Sabathia will start Monday against the Chicago White Sox.

San Francisco manager Bruce Bochy says he plans to use his slugging pitcher instead of a designated hitter Thursday night when the Giants visit the Oakland Athletics.

A's in position to sweep Bay Bridge set

OAKLAND, Calif. (AP) The Bay Bridge series has brought out the best of the Oakland Athletics and the worst of the San Francisco Giants.

Jed Lowrie and Yonder Alonso each hit two-run homers and the A's took advantage of sloppy play from the Giants to win their third straight game in the series, 7-1 on Wednesday night.

Trumbo hits 23rd HR, O's push run to 7

SAN DIEGO (AP) Mark Trumbo's magnificent two-run home run into the second deck in left field was the 55th of the month for the Baltimore Orioles, tying the big league record for long balls in June.

"Some guys are aware of it, some aren't," Trumbo said after the Orioles routed the San Diego Padres for the second straight game, 12-6 on Wednesday. "It's a special thing but it's not something anyone's going to gloat about or spend too much time thinking about. It just goes to show we're on a nice little run."

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (AP) Matt Moore insisted it didn't give him any extra satisfaction to outpitch David Price.

"I might be different than a lot of guys. I really don't think about it as Moore vs. Price," the Tampa Bay Rays left-hander said after stringing together seven spotless innings to beat the 2012 AL Cy Young Award winner and Boston Red Sox 4-0 on Wednesday.

CINCINNATI (AP) Anthony Rizzo saw the ball ricochet across the outfield and kicked his legs into high gear, deciding he was going to try to touch `em all. His sides were aching by the time he slid safely into home plate.

Rizzo legged out his first inside-the-park homer on Wednesday - a fitting final touch to a series full of unusual moments - and the Chicago Cubs beat the Cincinnati Reds 9-2 for a three-game sweep that put them back on solid footing after a rough stretch.
