BoSox's Fister beats Indians on 1-hitter

(TSX / STATS) -- CLEVELAND -- Doug Fister pitched a one-hitter and Eduardo Nunez had two hits, including a home run, and a career-high five RBIs as the Boston Red Sox rolled to a 9-1 victory over the Cleveland Indians on Tuesday night at Progressive Field.

In his third start against Cleveland in the last 23 days, Fister (3-6) gave up a home run to Francisco Lindor leading off the first inning, then held Cleveland scoreless and hitless for the rest of the way for his first complete game since Sept. 26, 2014. He walked two and struck out six.

Nunez had a two-run double in the seventh inning and a three-run homer in the eighth.


Indians put Miller, Salazar back on DL

(TSX / STATS) -- The Cleveland Indians placed left-hander Andrew Miller and right-hander Danny Salazar on the 10-day disabled list, the team announced Tuesday.

Miller, who is dealing with patellar tendonitis in his right knee, exited Monday's game against the Boston Red Sox after making seven pitches in the seventh inning. The All-Star reliever had just returned from a 16-day stint on the disabled list.


Tanaka solid in return as Yankees roll

(TSX / STATS) -- DETROIT -- Their ace pitcher returned from a shoulder injury and looked sharp. Their celebrated slugger finally ended a streak he never wanted to own.

It was a good night all around for the New York Yankees, who pummeled the Detroit Tigers 13-4 on Tuesday night at Comerica Park.


Suzuki homers, Stanton hits 46th in win

(TSX / STATS) -- PHILADELPHIA -- Just two months shy of his 44th birthday, it was Ichiro Suzuki who led the power surge for the Miami Marlins in game one of their doubleheader against the Philadelphia Phillies.

Ichiro stepped to the plate in the top of the seventh, pinch-hitting for starter Dan Straily (7-8, 3.83 ERA), and took a 3-1 pitch from Phillies starter Aaron Nola (9-9, 3.58 ERA) deep into right-center field for a three-run homer to give Miami and 6-3 lead before they eventually knocked off the Phillies 12-8.


Dodgers' Gonzalez has 2,000th hit in win

(TSX / STATS) -- PITTSBURGH -- Adrian Gonzalez's 2,000th career hit helped propel the Los Angeles Dodgers to an 8-5 win over the Pittsburgh Pirates on Tuesday night at PNC Park.

Gonzalez led off the sixth inning with a double down the right field line. After advancing to third, he scored when Corey Seager singled to right, giving Los Angeles a 6-5 lead.


Surging Twins hit 3 HRs to top White Sox

(TSX / STATS) -- CHICAGO -- Kyle Gibson worked his way out of two perilous jams while long balls from his teammates provided relief Tuesday night.

The Minnesota Twins right-hander faced bases loaded with one out in the second inning and none in the third inning but escaped each time in a 4-1 victory over the Chicago White Sox at Guaranteed Rate Field.


Nats' bullpen solid in win over Astros

(TSX / STATS) -- HOUSTON -- Tanner Roark recovered from a rocky start, and the Washington Nationals delivered with two outs in consecutive innings to claim a 4-3 interleague win over the Houston Astros on Tuesday night at Minute Maid Park.

Roark (10-8) pitched into the sixth inning after struggling early before handing over a one-run lead to his bullpen, which responded to the challenge of protecting it.


Solarte has 6 RBIs as Padres rout Cards

(TSX / STATS) -- ST. LOUIS -- Yangervis Solarte knocked in a career-high six runs Tuesday night as the San Diego Padres became the latest team to plunder St. Louis Cardinals pitching in a 12-4 rout at Busch Stadium.

Solarte capped his big evening in the eighth with a two-run homer to right-center that traveled an estimated 455 feet, his 14th blast of the year. He became the first player in franchise history to drive in six runs in a game at St. Louis.


Corbin wins third straight for Arizona

(TSX / STATS) -- NEW YORK -- Patrick Corbin earned his third consecutive victory Tuesday night, allowing one run over eight innings as the Arizona Diamondbacks defeated the New York Mets 7-4 at Citi Field.

The Diamondbacks (69-57) have won the first two contests of the four-game series -- their first consecutive victories since Aug. 2-4. The Mets (54-70) have lost eight of nine.
