Bush joins Romney in bid for Marlins

MIAMI (AP) A person familiar with the negotiations says former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush has joined the group led by businessman Tagg Romney that is trying to buy the Miami Marlins.

The person confirmed Bush's new role in sales talks to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity Friday because the parties aren't commenting publicly about efforts to sell the team.

The person also said South Florida businessman Jorge Mas has contacted the Marlins and said he's interested in buying the franchise.

Royals cut Young, sign reliever Feliz

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) Chris Young, Kansas City's winning pitcher in the 2015 World Series opener, had been designated for assignment.

Reliever Neftali Feliz agreed to a one-year contract with the Royals on Friday, four days after he was released by Milwaukee.

Twins call up veteran P Gee from minors

CLEVELAND (AP) The Minnesota Twins have added two reinforcements for their depleted pitching staff, right-handers Dillon Gee and Trevor Hildenberger.

The Twins selected their contracts on Friday from Triple-A Rochester before playing at Cleveland. Left-hander Mason Melotakis and right-hander Alex Wimmers were designated for assignment.

Marlins sign top pick Rogers, 2 others

MIAMI (AP) The Marlins have agreed to minor league contracts with their top three draft picks, reaching a deal with No. 13 overall selection Trevor Rogers that includes a $3.4 million signing bonus.

Miami also announced agreements Friday with No. 36 overall pick Brian Miller ($1,888,800) and No. 51 pick Joe Dunand ($1.2 million). Rogers is a left-handed pitcher who just finished high school in Carlsbad, New Mexico. Miller is a center fielder who played at North Carolina. Dunand is a shortstop from North Carolina State.

Cubs send slumping Schwarber to Triple-A

MIAMI (AP) The Chicago Cubs are hoping a stint in the minors will help Kyle Schwarber find his swing again.

The 24-year-old Schwarber was sent down to Triple-A Iowa on Thursday, giving the slumping slugger a chance to catch his breath after a difficult start to the season.
