Giants eager to see more firepower in camp

(TSX / STATS) -- EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. -- When the New York Giants reported to training camp last year, there was nowhere to go but up. The franchise had missed the playoffs every year since 2012 and had become broken beyond recognition thanks to injuries, poor drafts and questionable personnel decisions.

To everyone's surprise and delight, the 2016 Giants, led by rookie head coach Ben McAdoo and featuring a mostly brand-new defense, rose from the ashes en route to their first postseason berth and first winning record since finishing 9-7 in 2012. They also put together one of the most solid foundations this franchise has had in quite some time, a foundation that has the NFL world buzzing.

So, when McAdoo welcomes his players back from the six-week break on July 27, the broad goal is to build on that foundation -- the Giants' broken-down defense from 2015 rose to a top-10 unit in numerous statistical categories -- and win a fifth Super Bowl.
