Analysis: Sproles, though, got just one carry with LaDainian Tomlinson getting his most significant action in two weeks. Sproles was also limited to one reception.

Analysis: Sproles ran nine times for 23 yards and the score and also caught five passes for 43 yards. LaDainian Tomlinson will continue to get the bulk of the carries in San Diego, but expect Sproles to contribute on a regular basis. However, he and the rest of the Chargers could have a hard time generating offense next Sunday when they host Baltimore.

His pay is average of what the top five running back in the NFL are paid, a substantial raise from the $1.1 million in base pay Sproles made last year.
Analysis: Sproles was scheduled to become an unrestricted free agent before the Chargers tagged him as their franchise player. In his third pro season, the running back had career highs for rushing attempts (61), rushing yards (330), receptions (29), receiving yards (342), receiving touchdowns (five) and punt return average (11.3 yards).

Analysis: Sproles had been scheduled to become an unrestricted free agent. The Chargers tendered him a one-year contract offer of approximately $6.6 million, the average of the top five salaried running backs from 2008. He made $1.1 million in base pay last year. General manager A.J. Smith said the team plans to begin speaking with Sproles' agent, Gary Wichard, about a long-term deal.
