Analysis: Sproles sprained the medial collateral ligament in his left knee in a 27-0 win over the New York Giants on Oct. 12. The injury appeared worse when he went down and didn't return, but coach Chip Kelly alleviated concerns when he said it wasn't serious before the team broke for the bye. "I'm fine," Sproles said. Sproles had 71 catches for 604 yards and two touchdowns and ran for 220 yards and two scores.

Analysis: The person spoke to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity because the club's decision, first reported by NFL.com, has not been made public. New Orleans' decision to part with Sproles is the latest in a series of cost-cutting moves, including Friday's release of receiver Lance Moore.
