Analysis: Patriots coach Bill Belichick said Welker was being examined, but he had no further update. The NFL leader with 123 receptions was to undergo an MRI, his mother, Shelley Welker, said in a phone interview with The Associated Press. Welker's left knee buckled on a play during New England's first possession of Sunday's 34-27 loss to the Houston Texans in the final regular season game before next Sunday's playoff game against the Baltimore Ravens.

Analysis: He broke his own team record with 122 catches after getting 112 and 111 in his other two seasons with New England. "I knew my numbers would probably go up just having Tom and the type of offense we're in," he said, "but I never knew it would be like this."

New York will likely shadow Randy Moss with standout cornerback Darrelle Revis, leaving Welker a potentially frequent option for Tom Brady.

But with Tom Brady back in form, Welker remains a valuable option - especially in point-per-reception leagues. He's fifth in the NFL with 55 catches.

Analysis: That gives Welker 343 yards and four touchdowns in the last three games, and with Tom Brady back on track he turns into a must-play every week once again. That is, every week after the Patriots' bye this week.

Analysis: Welker had four 100-yard performances in each of his first two seasons in New England, but averaged 76 yards in his three previous games this season.
