Analysis: Patten played in 54 regular-season and six playoff games with the Patriots from 2001-2004. He caught a touchdown pass from Tom Brady in the 20-17 upset of the St. Louis Rams in the 2002 Super Bowl. After leaving New England, the 35-year-old played for Washington and New Orleans. He was out of football in 2009 after being released by the Cleveland Browns in training camp.

Analysis: Patten, who played for the Browns in 2000, spent the past two seasons with New Orleans. The signing Monday of the 34-year-old Patten gives the Browns a veteran presence, and he could be insurance pending toxicology reports on wide receiver Donte Stallworth, who struck and killed a pedestrian with his Bentley in Miami Beach on March 14. He has 324 catches for 4,715 yards and four touchdowns in 147 regular-season games in 12 NFL seasons.

Analysis: The 34-year-old Patten had 11 catches for 162 yards and a touchdown in five games last season. In 2007, he had 54 catches for 792 yards and three touchdowns.
