Old Dominion holds off St. John's

(TSX / STATS) -- Guard Ahmad Carver had 15 points and Old Dominion overcame a furious St. John's comeback effort to earn a 63-55 victory and take seventh place in the Battle 4 Atlantis on Friday.

The Monarchs, coming off a pair of six-point losses to Louisville and Louisiana State, broke open a close game early in the second half and led 51-35 with just over eight minutes to play. St. John's looked like a team without much depth playing its third game in three days, but found a second wind late to make things interesting.

A 15-2 run cut the ODU lead to 53-50 on a Marcus LoVett three-pointer with 1:29 left. But the Red Storm could get no closer, and Old Dominion hit its free throws down the stretch to seal the victory.
