St. John's claims 76-70 win at home

(TSX / STATS) -- With the help of a late run and career-best 25 points from Shamorie Ponds, St. John's pulled away from Cal State Northridge for a 76-70 win on Monday night at Carnesecca Arena in New York.

The Red Storm (4-5) used a 7-0 run with less than seven minutes left to take the lead for good. It was the second straight win for St. John's and marked the first time since its first two games of the season the team had back-to-back wins.

Ponds, a freshman guard, set a career scoring high, making 10 of 18 shots from the floor and knocking down 3 of 7 3-point attempts.
