Cobb, Nelson lead Fairfield over BC

(TSX / STATS) -- Curtis Cobb and Tyler Nelson led five players in double figures with 20 points apiece and Fairfield held off a late rally by Boston College to post an 89-83 victory over the Eagles in the opener of a Birthday of Basketball double-header at the Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, Conn.

The win, which ended a three-game losing streak, raised the Stags' record to 6-4 and sent BC to 6-6 -- in the first meeting between the schools since 2006.

The Stags, who had a 15-point first-half lead, led by nine before BC's late charge, fueled by a trapping defense, cut the deficit to two points with 1:56 left. But Amidou Sadibe scored four straight points for his team as Fairfield took an 87-83 lead with 32.5 seconds remaining.
